CWA Engineers Inc. (CWA) is an industry leading consulting engineering firm providing professional services to clients in Canada and around the world.  Our head office is located in the Broadway Tech Center, a modern and convenient facility by Broadway and Renfrew Street in Vancouver, adjacent to the Renfrew Skytrain Station. 

CWA provides services in a diverse range of industries, including ports and marine terminals, mining and minerals, infrastructure, and wood products.

With our expanding client base and growing project needs, CWA is seeking a qualified Accountant to join our dynamic team. Reporting to the Controller, the Accountant will be involved in the accounting process for the firm, including project accounting set up, invoicing, reporting/analysis, AP/AR, and assistance with month-end/year-end financial reporting.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

Project Accounting Setup

  • Set up new projects in the business system.
  • Liaise with Project Managers to set up/file rate schedules, customer details, payment plans, invoicing calendars, and multi-currency billing.
  • Ensure signed contract or purchase order is in place.


  • Review/post time sheets, credit card statements, and sub-contractor invoices for proper coding.
  • Review project transaction documents and accounts for accuracy and completeness, including sub-charges, datasheets, time reports, expenses, sub-contractor invoices, etc.
  • Prepare and review draft invoices for accuracy prior to submitting for Project Manager approval.
  • Finalize billing and send out customer invoices, credit notes, and backup documentation.
  • Monitor billing against project budgets and work with Project Manager/Controller to resolve issues.

General Accounting

  • Process all vendor, sub-contractor, and employee expense cheques and ensure accuracy.
  • Work directly with customers to ensure invoices have been received, approved, and processed.
  • Provide regular invoice status updates to the Controller and Project Managers.
  • Ensure that invoice and payment records are complete and up-to-date.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Controller.


  • Produce weekly/monthly reports such as labour detail, project cost reports, etc. for Project Managers.
  • Produce and analyze budget variance reports as needed.
  • Gather project accruals and provisions information as needed.
  • Assist in leading continuous improvement initiatives in processes and procedures.


  • Previous experience working in the professional service industry is an asset.
  • Related accounting education or equivalent Accounting Diploma.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Experience with deadline-oriented assignments.
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of software applications, e.g. Excel, Word.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
