We are looking to add an intermediate materials handling designer to our team. This position will be based in our Vancouver office at the Broadway Tech Centre, with amenities including a fitness centre, basketball and volleyball courts, an outdoor BBQ area, restaurants, cafés, bike lockers, underground parking, a daycare facility, and convenient access to the Renfrew SkyTrain Station.  

Position overview:

As an integral member of our mechanical department, your main role will include the layout, design, modeling, and specification of mechanical equipment. Travel to job sites on a short-term basis may be required.

Duties and responsibilities:

This position will involve the following:

  • Conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design of bulk materials handling equipment including ship, barge, rail, and truck loading and unloading systems comprised of belt conveyors, chutework, hoppers, dust control systems, and various specialty equipment components for industrial applications such as mines, port facilities, and process plants.
  • Creating layouts and detailed drawings as required for projects.
  • Assisting with and preparing specifications for the design and procurement of conveyors, conveyor components, stacking and reclaiming equipment, crushers, feeders, chutes, bins, and hoppers.
  • Working in a team environment on large multidisciplinary projects.
  • Interacting closely with other disciplines to coordinate overall project work.
  • Assisting with field activities such as condition inspections, commissioning, and field measurements.

Who you are:

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and characteristics:

  • Formal education in drafting and design.
  • 5-10 years of experience in the design of materials handling projects in the mining industry with an emphasis on conveyors, crushers, feeders, hoppers, bins, and dust collection ducting.
  • Experience within a heavy equipment or steel fabrication environment is considered an asset but is not required. 
  • A demonstrated ability to read, understand, and apply design criteria, industry standards, and client specifications.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Navisworks, and/or 3D Studio would be an asset.
  • A demonstrated ability to liaise with clients, contractors, and consultants.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills in English.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • A valid BC driver’s license.
