Coal Export Terminal

Coal Export Terminal
Northern Coast of Colombia

CWA was retained by MPX to carry out the basic engineering services for the development of a new 35 mtpa coal export terminal on the north coast of Colombia. To find the most cost effective and operationally efficient location for the terminal, CWA developed the layout and design to a level of detail capable of supporting funding requests and RFPs for the design, procure and build contracts.

The full green-field project scope included the development of both open pit and underground coal mines, an initial trucking link followed by a new dedicated rail line from the mine site to the ports, and a staged development from 5 mtpa up to and beyond 35 mtpa. As part of the high level option study, CWA developed a terminal simulation analysis tool to identify operational constrains within the terminal development and to aid in major equipment sizing.
