Ready Mix Harbour Plant

Ready-Mix Harbour Plant
Vancouver, BC

CWA successfully completed EPCM services for Lafarge’s greenfield Harbour Concrete Batch Plant project, which included an aggregate barge unloading terminal, storage area, and ready-mix concrete batch plant.

Located in a densely populated residential neighborhood in the heart of Vancouver, the batch plant was designed with the latest environmental and sustainability technology to meet and exceed the expectations of regulatory authorities and the local community. Given the diverse environment surrounding the site, the project team worked tirelessly to ensure that there was no loss of habitat. The existing nesting area with two resident bald eagles was retained and enhanced, and an artificial nest was constructed after consulting experts in eagle conservation.

CWA employed a low profile design to make the maximum plant height 40% lower than that of similar plants, maintaining resident views as much as possible. To minimize dust emissions and noise from truck traffic, the batch plant and the truck loud out were designed to be fully enclosed. CWA also utilized the latest technology to recycle concrete, minimizing the volume of water that is treated and released into the surrounding marine environment. By working with Lafarge to optimize the batch plant and conveyor designs, CWA kept costs to a minimum and completed the project under budget.
